Elvis fans often consider Tupelo Hardware the second most important Presley site in Tupelo after his birthplace. It was here that Gladys Presley bought her son his very first guitar. The business was founded by George H Booth in 1926 and is still owned and managed by the family's third generation under the leadership of George H Booth II. We cater to a wide range of customers, and one will find an unusual mix of products on the first floor of this circa 1941 three-story brick building in Tupelo’s original business district. Surrounding the original music counter are cast-iron and aluminum cookware, cans of spray paint, Briggs & Stratton engines, precision machinist tools, cabinet pulls, plumbing supplies and masonry tools. The company’s mainstays today are with contracting, wholesale and industrial businesses, but the friendly staff will gladly serve anyone in town -- including Elvis fans. It is then not surprising that back in 1945 this emporium’s inventory included musical instruments! |
